Wittenborg Representatives Attend Apeldoorn Business Awards Annual Barbecue

On 30 May, Wittenborg University of Applied Sciences was well represented at the annual barbecue of the Apeldoorn Business Awards. Sophia Faraji, External Relations & Events Manager, Karen Penninga, Director of Corporate Governance, and Alexandra Kukhtina, External Relations & Events Administrator, attended the event at Martins Brasserie, while Maggie Feng, CEO of Wittenborg, will participate as a jury member in the upcoming selection process.

The Apeldoorn Business Awards, founded by Mike van Woudenberg and Marc Ankersmid, have now seen Karen Hop and Rob Beemer take the reins. Recently, Arko van Brakel was also listed as a board member. The awards aim to showcase the best companies in Apeldoorn while fostering inspiration and connection within the local business community.

Each year, the awards are divided into six categories, reflecting essential sectors of the Apeldoorn business landscape: retail, wholesale and services, tourism and hospitality, industry and technology, central management starters and Rabobank social organisations.

A significant highlight of the evening was the handover of the jury book from Wendy Blom, chair of the nomination committee, to Priscilla Trip, chair of the jury. This gesture propelled the process forward towards the award night scheduled for 24 October at the Theater Orpheus in Apeldoorn. The jury book contains detailed information about nine companies per category, chosen by the nomination committee.

Although the awards night was the main event, the process is a year-long effort involving sponsorship coordination, programme updates and logistical organisation. The selection process is rigorous, focusing on factual data rather than opinions, and guided by an independent nomination committee and jury.

Following the handover, the jury will convene several times to discuss companies, gather additional information, and review financial and legal details. This process will lead to the selection of three nominees per category, to be announced on 28 August.
